These two final videos, which was graded at Level 4 and Level 3, vary in grading for many reasons:
Mise-en-Scene
The costuming of the characters was effective in Psychotic due to them suiting the characters and being what you would expect to see from the characters being portrayed. However, for Remember Me? The costuming was basic and didn't add to suspense or tension, whilst realistic for everyday life it was not realistic for a thriller and did not suit the characters as well as it could.
The settings in both, were partly in a house, however, Remember Me? had too many pieces of furniture in the background shots, taking away the sense of suspense and tension that you would expect to see in a thriller.
The props that were used were both linked into the plot of the thrillers, however, the hammer in Remember me? was not effective and did not create tension or fear and had more of a comical effect.
Lighting is really effective in Psychotic, especially when the girl is walking down the long, dark, narrow corridor by herself. The lighting in Remember me? is naturalistic light and does not have a good effect.
Sound
The sound of the thriller is like a heartbeat drumming throughout. When the titles come on the music beat gets harder and louder, and when a new scene is shown the music also changes to this, this could be to show that the girl is psychotic, which is the name of the thriller. There is noise of screaming and murmuring in the opening, which shows that the girl is suffering and is scared of her demons that are haunting and controlling her. However, the music in Remember me? is predictable and does not create tension due to when it falls in the film.
Editing
There is no editing in Remember Me?, however, in Psychotic, the whole film when the girl is with her two friends is filmed in black and white, which adds to the film, and links to the dull, dark atmosphere which you want to find in a thriller instead of natural lighting and colouring.
Cinematography
We see a lot of different camera angels and shots in both film openings, as we see in Remember me? the shots are very basic and simple and have kept it very minimalistic. On the other hand, in psychotic, there are a variety of complex shots and examples of close ups, including a close up of her eyes wandering which makes you think that she may be mentally ill. There are also shots of her walking around an abandoned room and this also flashes back to her in reality shots with her 2 friends. Overall, Psychotic has interpreted many complex shots which is reflected in their overall grade of the film opening.
